The Latin name for Sacha Inchi is Plukenetia Volubilis, but it can also be called Mountain Peanut, Sacha Peanut, or Inca Peanut. This perennial plant belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family. The seeds are enclosed in a star-shaped pod that fruit from a vine with somewhat hairy leaves. It is native to much of tropical South America, including Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador. It is now being grown in rainforest regions across the world, including Hawaii, Laos, Thailand, and Costa Rica.
Seedpods are capsules of 3 to 5 cm in diameter
Grown green and ripen black or brown.
Plant can reach a height of up to 7 feet.
Thrives in acidic soils and areas near rivers.
Produces 400 to 500 seeds a few times a year.
Flourishes in warm, tropical rainforest climates.
